What is the maximum continuous use temperature for plastics?
#1
Question
The true maximum continuous use temperature depends on how you define "continuous" use. Time and loading affect the answer along with additives and reinforcements used. A common barometer, however, for comparing materials is the Underwriters Laboratory (UL) Relative Thermal Index (RTI). The RTI is based on a loss of properties vs. time. When exposed to this maximum temperature, one can expect good long-term part performance. It doesn´t compensate for short-term thermal spikes (temperatures can be much higher for short periods of times – up to the meltpoint of plastic)
